For mobile mechanics
Offer the job only when the journey fits
A mobile diary has to schedule the road as well as the repair. METBooker checks where the customer is, whether they are inside your coverage and how the journey fits around the engineer's other work before it offers an appointment.
The road is part of the job
The cost of mobile work is the time between jobs. A diary that treats every gap as usable fills the day with appointments the engineer cannot reach.
METBooker treats travel as part of capacity. Coverage, the jobs either side and the travel estimate for that time of day decide whether a slot is offered, and the journey is written into the diary so everyone can see why.
- How work arrives
- Online, staff-created and requested bookings
- What shapes capacity
- Coverage, travel time, traffic and the engineer’s surrounding jobs
- How people are allocated
- Services assigned to engineers, then round robin, least busy or priority
- How payment is taken
- Deposit or full payment at booking, link or QR code at the roadside
- Vehicle information
- Registration lookup and MOT history on the booking, on the engineer’s phone
01
Define where you work
Set the business base and coverage rules. Customers outside the service area can be stopped before they create an unworkable booking.
02
Check the slot from both sides
When a customer enters an address, METBooker considers travel from the preceding job and towards the following one, using travel estimates for the relevant time. It offers a slot only where the work and journey fit the available day.
Example. An engineer has a job at 9:00 on one side of the patch and one at 13:00 on the other. A customer between them is offered 11:00 only because the drive to the 13:00 job still fits afterwards; 12:00 looks open in the diary but is not offered.
This is booking feasibility and travel-aware availability. METBooker does not reorder or optimise the engineer’s whole route.
Booking and diary03
Put the journey in the operational diary
Travel is represented alongside the engineer's jobs so staff can see why a time is or is not available. The owner can see work and time on the road rather than a calendar that pretends every gap is usable.
04
Allocate a team of mobile engineers
Assign services to the engineers who can perform them, then use round robin, least busy or priority allocation according to the way the business operates.
Team and operations05
Get commitment before the van moves
Take a deposit or full payment when the booking is confirmed. At the roadside, send a payment link or show a QR code so the customer can pay on their own phone. A separate card reader is not required for this route.
Payment links and full online payment are configured for your account during onboarding.
PaymentsHow a mobile booking is checked
The sequence the travel-aware feasibility recording shows, as text.
- Existing work
The engineer’s jobs for the day are already in the diary.
- Address entered
The customer enters where the vehicle is, and coverage is checked.
- Time refused
A time that looks open is not offered because the journey will not fit.
- Time offered
A time where the work and both journeys fit is offered.
- Diary updated
The booking and its travel appear in the engineer’s diary.
- Paid on site
At completion, a payment link or QR code lets the customer pay on their phone.
What to know first
- METBooker checks whether each new booking is feasible around existing work. It does not optimise or reorder the engineer’s whole route.
- Travel times are estimates for the relevant time of day, not a promise about traffic on the day.
- Mobile mode, mixed workshop and mobile operation, payment links and full online payment are configured during onboarding rather than switched on for every new account.
- The integrated card reader is Stripe Terminal. The payment-link and QR route needs no card reader at all.
Common questions
How does METBooker decide whether a mobile slot fits?
It checks the customer’s address against your coverage rules, then estimates travel from the engineer’s preceding job and towards the following one, using traffic-aware estimates for that time of day. A slot is offered only where the work and both journeys fit the available day.
Can I set a maximum area or distance?
Yes. You set the business base and a maximum coverage distance. Customers outside it are stopped before they create a booking you cannot reach.
Does it optimise the engineer’s entire route?
No. METBooker checks whether each new booking is feasible around the jobs already in the diary. It does not reorder the engineer’s whole day into an optimised route.
Can different engineers cover different services?
Yes. Each service lists the engineers who can perform it, and eligible work is allocated by round robin, least busy or priority order.
How can the customer pay without a card reader?
Where payment links are configured, send a payment link or show a QR code; the customer pays on their own phone through your payment provider’s checkout and the booking updates. A deposit or full payment can also be taken when the booking is confirmed.
Can we combine workshop and mobile work?
Yes, where mixed workshop and mobile operation is configured for the account. It is set up during onboarding rather than switched on by default.
