Customers and vehicles

Know the vehicle first

Enter a registration and METBooker adds the vehicle details and MOT history from DVLA and DVSA data to the booking, to support the business's own checks before the work. Customer details, notes, emails and payments stay with the booking and its searchable history.

What vehicle data is for

The counter can confirm the make and model before the car arrives. A technician can see last year's advisories before it is on the ramp. A tuning specialist can judge suitability at the point of accepting a request. A mobile engineer can read the vehicle on a phone before arriving.

What it cannot do matters as much. MOT and tax status support a business's own pre-arrival or pre-road-test checks. They do not establish insurance, roadworthiness, driver entitlement or permission to use the vehicle.

Supports
Preparing for the job, spotting advisories, checking MOT and tax status before arrival or a road test
Does not prove

What is on the booking

Everything you need to prepare for the job, in one place.

A booking holds the customer's name and contact details, an invoice address and business details where they are a trade customer, the vehicle and its registration, the customer's own notes about the job, and every payment and refund. Every email METBooker sends about that booking, from the confirmation to a payment link, is logged on it with the time it went.

When the customer comes back, search for their name or registration and the earlier bookings are there, with what was done and what they paid.

MOT history on the job

From any booking, open the vehicle's MOT history: past tests, results, advisories and recorded mileage. A technician can see what failed last year before the car is on the ramp, and the counter can mention the advisory that is now due.

The booking card also shows whether the MOT and tax were in date when the booking was made.

Bring them back

MOT and service reminders are emailed to customers who asked for them when they booked online. For each kind of reminder you choose when the vehicle is next due, for example a year after the work or the DVLA MOT expiry date, and how far ahead of that the reminder goes. The email uses your wording, with the customer's name, the registration and the due date filled in.

Reminders are configured for your account during onboarding. Customers booked in by staff are not opted in automatically.

Their data, looked after

Customers agree to the privacy notice when they book. Selected personal fields, such as names, contact details, addresses and registrations, are encrypted before they are stored. Deletion requests, retention and anonymisation follow the published privacy notice and data processing agreement, while the financial records a business must keep remain.

Common questions

Where does the vehicle information come from?

Vehicle details come from DVLA data when the booking is made. The full MOT history comes from DVSA data and is fetched fresh each time you open it, so it is always current.

Is there a separate customer database?

Not at present. Customer and vehicle details are kept on each booking, and you find past work by searching for a name or registration. A combined customer record is not part of the product today.

Does the MOT and tax status prove a vehicle can be driven?

No. MOT and tax data support your own checks before a vehicle arrives or is road tested. They do not confirm insurance, roadworthiness, driver entitlement or permission to use the vehicle.

Do MOT and service reminders go to every customer?

Only customers who tick the reminder box when booking online. Reminders are configured for your account during onboarding, and you choose how long after the work and how far in advance each one is sent.

Can METBooker be used for work that is not on a vehicle?

Yes. A non-vehicle mode removes the registration and vehicle steps for businesses that book other kinds of work.

Where next

When the work is done, the invoice and the VAT record come from the same booking.
